Volunteer Opportunities

Meals On Wheels

We are looking for additional volunteers for the Okoboji and Arnolds Park Routes. The meals are ready to be picked up at the Lakes Regional Healthcare kitchen around 11:15. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete the route. '

TRANSPORTATION

There are several individuals of all ages in need of transportation assistance to medical or approved appointments. Volunteers are reimbursed at .34 a mile for out of town trips and are covered by an insurance policy above and beyond your own. '

School Volunteers

Volunteers will be needed to assist elementary students with reading and math. Volunteers work with individual students of small groups. Volunteers are also needed to read to Head Start students periodically.'

Receptionists and Greeters

Greet visitors at sites such as Abbie Gardner Sharp Cabin and Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame, and The Welcome Center.'

Strong Able Bodies

Thee Garage Sale is looking for volunteers to move donated furniture. Volunteers will be on call sometime Tuesday through Friday 10:30am to 4:00pm.'

Respite Care

Volunteers will assist the Alzheimer's Association by providing relief to the caregiver of a frail and/or elderly person age 60 or over that has a dementia related disease. Volunteers can visit 2 to 4 hours once or twice a month'

Gardeners

It is time to work on the Butterfly Garden at the Spirit Lake School which was planted in 2003 by the second graders and RSVP Volunteers in memory of 911.'

Bridge Instructors

We are investigating a volunteer program to introduce bridge to students. Children could be in the school, at an after school program, or in a club. Instruction materials are available from the American Contract Bridge League.'

Mailings

Okoboji Community School and Cherish Center utilize volunteers to help prepare their newsletters for mailing. It usually takes one morning once a month.'
